A Litany of Divine Presence
You know what lies before me, O God,
And you understand the path that brought me here.
You see the moments yet to unfold,
And you remain steadfast in your presence.
When I turn away, you pursue me,
When I lose sight, you draw near.
In every season of wandering,
Your faithfulness remains unchanged.
When signs appear before my eyes,
Grant me wisdom to perceive them.
When others demand proof of your presence,
Let me recognize you in the ordinary.
When the veil descends and fog surrounds me,
Pierce through my confusion with your light.
As you showed Elijah your protecting hosts,
Show me I am never truly alone.
When injustice kindles anger in my heart,
Let it fuel the work of righteousness.
As darkness falls and anger burns,
Transform it into purpose before night comes.
In the face of oppressive systems,
Grant me courage to stand and speak.
When confronting those who deal in hatred,
Help me see the wounds behind their actions.
As they are corrupted by their own malice,
Let me hold fast to your compassion.
In my weakness and exhaustion,
Draw me into community with others.
Beyond the myth of self-reliance,
Lead me into genuine fellowship.
In the sharing of our burdens,
Let vulnerability become strength.
When I look upon another's face,
Help me see your image dwelling there.
In our gathering and in our dispersing,
Bind us together in your love.
Through seasons of abundance and want,
Let your Spirit guide our unity.
In the ordinary and the extraordinary,
May your peace set all hearts free.
For the journey that lies ahead,
Grant us wisdom, grant us grace.
In solitude and in community,
Let your presence be our guide.
Through the unity of your Spirit,
And in the name of Jesus who shows the way.
