5 Things the Bible Does Not Say About Women and Wives

That they have one set of roles and men have another.

So God created humankind in his image
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” (Genesis 1)

The commands to subdue and have dominion are for all genders.

That women are merely subordinate helpers

“It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” (Genesis 2)

The Hebrew term used for "a helper as his partner" is the same term used for God as our helper. Hardly the role of a subordinate.

That women are to only work inside the home.

Deborah was a ruler, warrior, and judge. The Proverbs 31 women was a merchant and real estate investor. Huldah was a prophet, teacher of the law, and royal advisor.

That they are not the head of the household.

The Bible never once says that men are the head of the household. The only time anything close to that phrase is used is in 1 Timothy 5:14, where women are good to be good "oikodespoteō," literally "rulers of the household."

That they are not to be submitted to.

We can't get around the fact that women are to submit to their husbands. But, men are to submit to women as well.

"Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ...women...men...children...parents." (Ephesians 5—6).

The image of society presented by the early church is one of mutual and voluntary submission.
